Further Visit of ICDT’s Representatives in Moldova

Amb. István Gyarmati, President of the Centre for Democracy Public Foundation and colleagues of the ICDT made an official visit last week to Moldova in the framework of the „Promoting Moldova’s EU Aspirations” project.

As a follow-up of the Conference on the Moldovan National Security and Military Strategies, a workshop on the National Military Strategy was held at the Ministry of Defence where ICDT’s experts, along with Mr. Marian Majer, Senior Research Fellow of the Center for European and North Atlantic Affairs (CENAA) had productive discussion with the colleagues of the Defence Policy and Defence Planning Department.

Along with Hungarian Ambassador Mátyás Szilágyi, the ICDT delegation met with several high ranking Moldovan officials. They discussed the areas of prospective cooperation with the Ministers of Internal Affairs and Defence, the Heads of the Security and Information Service, the Supreme Security Council and the National Center for Combating Economic Crimes and Corruption. During meetings with German Ambassador Matthias Meyer, Head of EU Delegation Ambassador Dirk Schübel, Ukrainian Ambassador Serhii Pyrozhkov, Team Leader of the EU Project „Support to the State Chancellery – TTSIB” Dr. János Zákonyi, and Chief of Party of the NDI’s Moldova Office Andrew Young, they mapped out further possibilities to assist security and justice sector reforms in Moldova. Furthermore, they reviewed the Centre’s initiatives to improve the local people’s lives with the representative of Transnistria, Mr. Vitaliy Ignatiev.

As the Chair of the Working Group on Security Sector Reform of the Community of Democracies (CoD), ICDT’s activities aim to support the prosperity of Moldova, one of the target countries of the CoD’s Democracy Partnership Challenge.
