Conference on Democracy 2014 (CODE ’14)
January 2014 - April 2014

Objectives

Our main goal is to continue the new series of annual conferences titled CODE, an initiative of the ICDT dealing with the most important issues of democracy. The current event is the ICDT's 8th annual conference, and the third one under this title.

Background

The ICDT launched a new series of annual conferences in 2011. The Conference on Democracy (CODE) deals with some of the most important global and regional issues related to democratic development. The first CODE was held in Budapest in June, 2011. It coincided with the ceremonial opening of the Tom Lantos Institute that was attended by US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

Project Description

This year we devote our (third) annual conference to the cooperation of the Visegrad countries. We want to emphasize the importance of regional cooperation in Central Europe and also to promote the effective implementation of similar type of collaboration in other parts of Europe, such as the Western Balkans and the Eastern Partnership region.

This year’s CODE would coincide with the Hungarian Presidency of the Visegrad Group. In 2014 we also celebrate the tenth anniversary of the accession of the Visegrad countries to the European Union.  Within this framework the CODE conference enjoys the full support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Hungary.
