Projects
Strengthening Civil Society in Belarus by Training and Education
January 2007 - June 2007

Objectives
This project transferred first-hand experience gained in the building of civil society under authoritarian regimes throughout Central and Eastern Europe; educated and trained Belarusian civil society leaders in areas ranging from economic transition to project management and communication of results; and facilitated networking between Belarusian NGOs by enabling them to work together to
promote democratization.

Project Description
The first main event was a public conference on democratic transitions in Central and Eastern Europe with the participation of 50 Belarusian NGO activists. Held in February 2007 in Vilnius, the conference was followed by a closed workshop for the activists. The second event, held in Palanga, Lithuania in April 2007, was a specially targeted seminar for 15 selected Belarusian NGO activists.

The workshop, adjusted to the specific needs of the participants, provided practical training in several areas including project management, communication, and fundraising.

Follow-up
The ICDT continued its efforts in Belarus within the framework of the two projects “Strengthening the Capacity of Belarusian Women Movements and Organizations” and the “Belarus Task Force”.
