The ICDT successfully held the second workshop of the Technical Assistance to the Dniester/Nistru Euroregion (Capacity Building of the Dniester/Nistru Euroregion) project, in cooperation with the Insitute for Stability and Development between November 18-19 in Tiraspol, Transnistria.
The project - supported by the International Visegrad Fund - aims to provide assistance for the coordination body of the newly established Dniester/Nistru Euroregion in the form of capacity building and advocacy activities.
A dinner reception was held on November 18 in Tiraspol with the participation of Transnistrian Chief Negotiator Madame Nina Shtanski, EU Head of Delegation Amb. Dirk Schuebel, Special Envoy for Eastern Partnership of the Czech Republic Amb. Petr Máres, former Executive Director of the International Visegrad Fund Dr. Petr Vágner and Amb. Prof. Dr. István Gyarmati, President of the Centre for Public Democracy Foundation, along with 25 other local and international guests.
In his keynote speech during the reception, Amb. Gyarmati highlighted the importance of the newly established Dniester/Nistru Euroregion and emphasized the partnership agreement between the ICDT and the Euroregion. Madame Nina Shtanski expressed the support of Transnistria for the activities of the Euroregion and stated that the Transnistrian authorities are committed to work together with it in several fields.
At the workshop on November 19, Amb. Gyarmati and Hungarian Ambassador Mátyás Szilágyi welcomed the participants. Mr. Daniel J. Bader, President and CEO of the Helen Bader Foundation gave a lecture about the general expectations of donor organizations, while Mr. Dinu Toderascu, Program Officer of the Black Sea Trust Fund presented specific requirements and main criteria for funding projects. Staff members of the coordination body of Dniester/Nistru Euroregion also discussed cooperation possibilities with the two organizations.
Mr. Vladymyr Merezhko, Director of the Dniester/Nistru Euroregion Coordination Centre introduced the main goals and the history of the organization. Ms. Eva Rybkova, Program Manager of the Institute for Stability and Development presented the main donor databases and some fundraising strategies.
In the afternoon session, Mr. Sándor Köles, Senior Advisor of the ICDT held a group discussion on the organizational mission statement for the Dniester/Nistru Euroregion which resulted in the development of a very draft version.
During the closing panel, Dr. Petr Vágner talked about the importance of coordinating the projects and integrating them into a program.
A dinner reception was also organized on November 19 in Chisinau, where Mr. Sergiy Tatusiak, Head of the Vinnytsa Oblast Region and Head of the Euroregion Council emphasized the importance of the technical assistance of the project and its methodology.
