ICDT at Sziget Festival 2013 for the 4th Time

ICDT was partnering the Corvinus Society for Foreign Affairs and Culture (CKKE) at the Sziget Festival for the 4th time between August 7-11. This year's program focused on the Central European Year.

Péter Rada, President of the Corvinus Society for Foreign Affairs and Culture opened the program on Wednesday, August 7 within the framework of the Festival’s NGO Island section.

Besides interesting and informative quizes and boardgames on the Hungarian Chairmanship of the V4 Cooperation and the Central European Initiative (CEI) during 2013, the organizers also invited experts of various fields to engage visitors in discussions on timely issues.

Former Cultural Attaché at the Hungarian Embassy in the US, Béla Gedeon introduced the Hungarian exposition at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival, titled „Hungarian Heritage: Roots to Revival”, held in Washington D.C. between June 26-30 and July 3-7, 2013. The event was a great success for the country, attracting nearly one million people, presenting them the living Hungarian cultural heritage.

Expert in international law Tamás Lattmann gave a lecture on the recent developments of the trials of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) and their connection with the Croatian EU accession and the European integration process of the Western Balkan countries.

A highlight of the program was the attendance of Deputy State Secretary for Security Policy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Szabolcs Takács who presented the importance of the Central European Year for Hungary’s foreign policy and the prospects of the Ministry’s activities.

The participation of the two organizations has been a great success, attracting a considerable number of visitors and raising awareness of the issues dealt with.
